On Labor Day weekend, with Kelly having graduated from high school, Peggy still not working, Bud in his senior year in high school, and Marcy officially divorced and having gotten a promotion at her bank, Al decides to take the family for a vacation and see American by car in their red Volvo convertible. But they end up being caught in a 50-mile traffic jam on the Chicago freeway the entire weekend.
