简介：He was appointed Chairman of the Tyneside shipbuilding and armaments giant Armstrong Whitworth in 1915. Following studies at Oxford in classics, history and theology, he became tutor to the family of Sir Andrew Noble, his predecessor as Armstrong Whitworth's Chairman.
